Translating jamendo : start here !

jamendo has a quite advanced interface that can be used by authorized members to translate any sentence in the website from any language to their specific language.

The coordination between translators can be done on our forums : http://forums.jamendo.com/en/viewforum.php?id=100822

Even if jamendo is backed by a commercial company, we have not enough money to pay for translators, so your work as volonteer will be rewarded by a life long presence in jamendo's hall of fame. In order to give credit to every contributors, we only accept translation with the CC "Attribution" (CC-by) license.

How to become jamendo translator ?

We are interested in any language. So first, please register on jamendo.

Then, mail us [http://www.jamendo.com/en/static/contact/], tell us your jamendo username, join your resume and tell us a bit about you... we'll send you the accesses.

If translating goes well with you, you will be able to become moderator in your language.

WTF ?! How do I use this **** interface ?

It's ''very'' easy. You have to be logged in. Click on the flag (top right corner) of the language you want to translate FROM. Then go to ''Backoffice'' (in the menu bar) > ''Translation Interface'' (left menu), and click on the language you want to translate TO.

So when you translate the website from French to English, you must browse the website in French.

There is an indicator for this in the interface. when translating from english to czech it will display "EN => CZ"

The sentences are shown to you one by one, randomly. If you don't want to translate the current one, you can go back to "Translation interface" and click the language you want to translate TO again.

'''The interface doesn't work on Safari/KHTML yet due to fckeditor. Please use firefox instead, sorry.'''

'''NEW : Once you're done editing for the day, you have to click on the link "I'm done, apply the changes" that appears on the bottom of each page for your translations to be updated'''

How do I translate the descriptions of the artists ?

Currently you can only translate the static content of the website which is not edited by the artists. they have to translate their descriptions theirselves.

What do I do with the tags ?

There are a few things you won't have to translate. Basically, everything that's between { } or < > MUST NOT be translated. those are tags used in our code, not language strings. Please leave them as they are in your translation, or the website will be broken.

''' Please don't change any markup or HTML attributes or whatever that's not strictly a language string '''

How do I edit a key I already translated ?

Click the "es/cz/... : edit a key" link below, and search for you key in the big page, using "CTRL-F" of your browser, and the first words of the sentence. then click on the key name and you'll be editing the translation.

I can't translate this word, I need its context !!

This is a problem you won't have on large sentences, but you can always post your questions (not by mail, please) in the forum. Maybe it will be useful for other languages too.

I really don't know how to translate this one !

Then leave it in english, and save. But put it in the JamQuestions page or in the coordination page for your language to remember it wasn't translated, others will help !

I need to see the translated website !

Go to http://www.jamendo.com/{TO}.force/ where {TO} is your language (it,cz,...). If you want to continue translating, remember to click again on the flag of the language you want to translate FROM.

Hey ! Do I have to translate the same words multiple times ?

Yep, sorry, there are a few words ("Albums","Submit") that are in double/triple in our database. nothing to be worried about.

OMG! I'm translating from English to Czech, but I get a text from French ?

There are dummy texts, just leave them in french too, they aren't important.

Can I submit blank key ?

Bad idea ;) You can't do this, if you submit a blank key, he will saved as blank.

Can 2 users use the translation interface at the same time ?

Yes because the strings are shown randomly so there is little chance that you'll end up translating the same one at the same time. We will improve this issue in the next revision of the interface.

I want to translate the big texts first !

Okay, here are a few links to the translation of all the big texts. You have to replace {FROM} and {TO} in the urls by your languages (fr,en,es,cz,de,...) :
